Reviews of Frieda B

  • World's Best Bars

"...sleek neighbourhood bar...a small local gem"

"A sleek little neighbourhood bar on the otherwise unexciting Battersea Rise, Frieda B has benefited from a recent revamp which has made it even more appealing. Alongside great drinks, they now offer mixology nights, for would-be cocktail gurus, and the Monday night Champagne club with gratis fizz is a cool way to kick start one's week. Upstairs the bar is slightly cramped but the downstairs section, with its leather sofas and mirrors, is a stronger space – great for chilling out on a week night or dancing on a Friday or Saturday to resident DJs. A small local gem."

"...a cocktail bar without snootiness...as friendly as they come"

"A cocktail bar without snootiness - or burly doormen - this miniature two-floored venue is as friendly as they come. The proof: free mini martinis on Tuesday and a chirpy owner who actually tends the bar."

  • Top Table

    "...a fresh and funky bar"

"Set on South London's number one party street, Battersea Rise, Frieda B has an unassuming exterior which could as easily lead in to an exclusive boutique or chi-chi café as a fresh and funky bar. Inside leather banquettes, high stools and pop-ish art works on the wall give away its true identity as a cosy yet energetic bar where groups of gorgeous girls sip cocktails and boys loosen their ties over a continental lager. While upstairs glitzy light fittings are toned down by earthy walls and furnishings the downstairs club ramps up the glam factor with squishy sofas and stripped floors toned up with feature lighting and bang up to date sounds."

  • Time Out

"...admirably non-chainy venue, which offers a more intimate alternative to nearby bars"

"The basement area of this small two-floor bar works slightly better than the slightly awkward ground floor space. The latter offers comfy couches to sink into and an inbuilt DJ booth from which mix masters spin tunes at the weekend. Monthly wine tasting and mixology classes seek to draw in the Clapham-ites looking for midweek entertainment, but otherwise this is more of a weekend spot. Friendly staff are a big plus, and new management took over in 2008 with the aim of broadening the appeal of this admirably non-chainy venue, which offers a more intimate alternative to nearby bars."
